On our last day in Paris we took a tour of Montmartre which, according to Wikipedia, is "is a hill which is 130 metres high, and also the name of the surrounding district, in the north of Paris in the 18th arrondissement, a part of the Right Bank, primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur on its summit and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded. Many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre such as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh."

We purchased a cute oil painting as a gift for my sister, Kim, who had flown from Seattle to watch over our three boys back in Evanston, Illinois.

Montmartre is the area that is at the foundation of a new understanding of our Lord God Jesus Christ which is rooted in His sacred heart transmitted through devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. Saint Ignatius Loyola and Saint Francis Xavier, co-founders of The Society of Jesus took their original vows on top of this hill which is where Pope John Paul II came on June 1st 1980 to pay homage at the bascillica of the Sacred Coeur when he came to Paris on his first apostolic tour of France.

According to ParisDigest.com, "the Sacré Coeur is a holy place and a flagship of Catholic devotion to the Holy Virgin in Paris. It attracts many pilgrims from all over the world and has a large network of affiliated churches."

Going to the top of this holy hill overlooking Paris was a fitting spiritual end to our last full day in
Paris. And we were honored to contribute in some small way to the artistic community there on the hill with a gift that my sister will remember her week watching over our boys.
