Here's a VFD from the good ol' days. It has segment-based characters (the "S" looks like a backward "Z".) It chugs current, big-time. Is IEE still in business? BTW, as the display itself announces, it's standard serial. Amazing. -- PJ Allen --

  • Where can I find the software and blueprints to connect a display like this to my computer???

  • @PondusNorge -- This is a serial input, 8N1, but it's TTL True. Inasmuch, a MAX232/MAX233 (or similar) is required between it and a PC (TX out). You could then send it data from Hyperterminal or other terminal app. The VFD shown is connected to a microcontroller, its output data is TTL True; BasicStamp2, PICAxe, and other such are widely available.

  • Very nice. What model display is this?

  • @TitaniumStudios0x01 -- It is an IEE ('Flip') Model 03700-04-016, manufactured "9043"

  • @2N2222A - Thanks for the info. I have a similar 03700-06-020/S which I would link to if YouTube would let me.
