@cawildi Hi! I'm originally from Habersham County, but living/working in Norcross. I've just recently gotten hooked on gold prospecting, and it'd be awesome to have a buddy to go visit some panning spots. I've got gold pans, classifier, Whites GMZ nugget detector and an E-Z Sluice(sluice is on its way! Reply back if you're interested. I'd love to go even further north of Habersham, maybe try out White or Rabun Co. Interested in camping over weekends while panning.

@iipoloqscopeii, Yes there is gold in Coweta, Meriwether and Carroll counties. Used to be several old mines near Luthersville and Moreland. So it may be possible to find a placer in a stream.

Now tha's my kinda thing. Love the country. HATE SPIDERS is all. Bring a spider killer to watxch over me and i'm a good thorough worker. like fishing but You get to play in the water. Always wanted to pan for gold. Jealous. :-D
1morethan8, Just returned from White and Habersham counties today. Mentioned several times to my wife that I would like to pan some streams, but do not know what locations are open to the public for panning. What are the rules for state and US Forest service streams, and where is it open to public? Not interested in those tourist gold mine places, just a stretch of stream where it is quiet and open to public (or by permission).

Check with the Chattahoochee National Forest...rules seem to change frequently!
