This is just a quick tutorial on how to install a custom kernel and overclock your Droid using the free app 'ROM Manager'. Be sure to buy the premium version if you like the features!

You must have root access to install custom kernels and overclock your Droid. Please make sure you download your kernels from the provider of your ROM, or you are certain it will work with the ROM you're running. Otherwise, you may be stuck in a reboot cycle!

Also, check out my ROM (the one you see in the video) at the following link:

Happy overclocking!

  • ive got a galaxy s2 which is rooted, can i install any kernal on my phone without messing it up ?

  • @IIxMURPHYxII no, you need to make sure the kernel is compatible with your ROM. For the GS2, there are ROMs based on TouchWiz and AOSP, so you need to make sure the kernel matches the ROM type. The writeups on XDA-developers should be helpful.

  • Please respond! I want to download your custom rom but I need a more specific link to get to it. Could ypu please provide me with that link?

  • @cgahagan36 the link in the description still works, however, this is so old that I can no longer recommend it. I'd look into CM7 or Peter Alfonso's GPA series of ROMs for the Droid 1.

  • Hey, Im having trouble..

I have a Motorola Milestone A854, and want to root my phone.

  • @PaladinTips Sorry, this is not for the Milestone, this is for the Verizon CDMA Droid. As far as I know, the Milestone is rooted but not bootloader unlocked, so you cannot install custom kernels like this.

  • @FabolousTT Thanks for this info. So basically whatever phone you have as long as you have CM7 or MIUI you can run a kernal that is compatible with cm7 or miui as long as it corresponds with the build, right? If so Im going flash crazy.

  • i have a question. ok so can i use a custom over clocked kernal with my stock rom because i dont really wanna change the rom casue i dont feel the need to

  • Do a video on HTC EVO shift 4g

  • What kind of Build and kernals are you using ? i've been having trouble with my droid OG being bogged down and no matter how many system apps i remove it still runs with lag, now i can overclock but it kills my battery mega quick any helpful info would be awesome :)
