On a still wintry morning, Scene from Florida HD reveals Boneyard Beach at the northern edge of Big Talbot Island. A series of constantly shifting sand bars shields the beach from the open Atlantic Ocean. The "bones" are the skeletal remains of oak trees, fallen in their march toward the sea. Low bluffs stand as silent sentinels, forever keeping watch over the coast.

Despite the racing clouds, not a breath of air stirred when I last visited.

I can't say the same for the sand gnats. Before you hike down to and along the beach at Big Talbot, be sure to liberally apply the insect repellant.
