The Novato Hornets were looking to improve their League standings in the game against the Trojans of Terra Linda, but everyone knew that it wasn't going to be easy. The game on the home turf of the Trojans was a physical battle that was exciting to watch from the comfort of the stands but bruising and painful for the teams on the field.

The Hornet offense pushed up the field and had many shots on goal but the Terra Linda goalkeeper was determined not to let the ball get by. Novato goalkeeper, Taylor Crowhurst and the spirited Hornet defense kept the Trojans from scoring in the first half.

The second half was more intense with the Trojan defense using slide tackles, often from behind (yellow card Mr. Referee?) to stop the momentum of the Hornets. Novato midfielder, Lil Seidlin-Gore took the ball 40 yards down the middle of the turf then fired a shot which hit the post, deflected off the goalie into the back of the Trojan net! Novato's lead was short-lived as the Terra Linda offense made a run of their own and a shot which tied the score 1-1.

The Hornet defense had their hands full as the Trojans fought to score again. A contentious penalty call in the box set up Trojan goal number two on a direct free kick. Shortly after, Novato Coach Jeff Wallace moved defender Callie Edblom to forward. It was a move that looked like it paid off when Allison Skidmore sent the ball from midfield toward the Trojan box. Callie with a defender in hot pursuit raced to the ball as the Terra Linda goalie came out to intercept. As the ball came down the defender collided with Callie and the Trojan goalie but the ball popped free which Hornet right forward Annalise Dowd sprinted to and fired into the back of the net! With the score tied 2-2 and only minutes remaining both teams intensified their effort to win. With seconds left the Trojan goalie stepped outside the box to stop another Hornet advance. The center ref rewarded the goalie with a yellow card and automatic ejection for the hand ball. With a chance to move ahead Novato took the indirect free kick which unfortunately just missed! Time was up and the game ended in a 2-2 tie which kept Novato ahead of Terra Linda in the MCAL standings! An amazing effort by the girls of Novato who seem to be peaking at the right time of the soccer season!
Go Hornets!!!!
