  • Seems to me that Woody should get at least the same amount of credit as Freddie Hubbard for his contributions to modern trumpet playing. I even dare to say that although Freddie was more visceral and moving at times, Woody developed a more concise style that really allowed him to deliver fierce and structured ideas every time he blew.

  • Very tight Quintet. The Jazz world lost two very underrated and great musicians in Shaw (1989) and Jefferson(1993) both in untimely fashion. However, in posting these performances you help to keep the tradition of Jazz and their memories alive, Thanks. The rest of the quintet consists of Clint Houston(b) Onaje AllanGumbs(p) Victor Lewis (d)

  • @danieleraimondi1992 Get the CD 'Rosewood' TODAY if u can, but since you've posted this 8 months ago, I can assume you've got it by now.

  • Thanks for posting! "Rosewood" is one of my favorite tunes (along with the whole LP), and Woody is still one of my favorite trumpet players of all time.

This is one great performance - Carter Jefferson sounds great. A challenging tempo, too!!

  • I'm a bone player, but Woody was always one of my favorites during this time period.

  • @TheDanSebastian Well spoken. Listening to Woody, I feel the same.
