Rolling animation of the head of a duckbill platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus; USNM 221110). An entire platypus, a female collected in 1916 and "pickled" in alcohol, was borrowed from the Smithsonian and scanned at the OUµCT facility. A variety of organs were digitally segmented in Amira, then rendered in Maya and QuickTime by Ryan Ridgely. A version of this movie was generated for the new "Bones" exhibit at the Gunma Museum in Japan. Also available on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/witmerlab. Whoa, it's skull is actually very bird like if u no alot about bird skulls. For example, the 3 major parts that make it a bird/reptile like skull is the shape of the cranium, eye sockets and teh fact it has no teeth and it's jaws... Look at the joint end of the jaws where it connects the skull! Very un-mammal like.
