(ctd) I think he's trying to create a "great lost album" vibe around this (which it already has anyway). There's not a dull milisecond on Time Fades Away - it's a reminder of how music was made in the Seventies.

Neil's just being contrary. This is one of his best albums, and Last Dance may be his best performance ever. Yes, it's throat-searingly raw and ragged, but the fact that it just about hangs together makes it all the more exciting. The soloing and the backing vocals, as well as Young's lead vocals, are all amazing. Last Dance could not possibly be improved on, in my opinion.. I can't believe he deems some of his recent output worthy of release, but not this. (ctd)

I have this album on vinyl... it was the first album that I ever bought and I'm 42 now... for Neil to say that it wasn't worthy of CD pressing, well, it was a sketchy mix of stuff no doubt, so I can understand that, but it was my first exposure to Neil Young, and I still think it is a great album.
This album is unique since it's a full batch of 'new' (for 1972) songs, and not just live versions of stuff Neil released on previous records. My guess is that Neil is probably irked these tunes weren't developed more before being committed to record. I've read reviewers in different places complain about the sound quality, but I don't find it bad at all. Rough, yes. Whadd'ya expect? The images here are plenty strange & random, btw. I like it!

I love this album, and I love that refrain part "You can live your own life" Beautiful and raw.
