Surprise, surprise... The Vudu App for the Xbox 360 doesn't use HDCP over HDMI. This video segment was recorded using HDMI @ 720p using the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle.

HDCP is a form encryption for the video/audio and just about all available HDMI capture devices don't allow you to record over HDMI when HDCP is enabled. So if you have a capture device that can record using HDMI, you "could" record your Xbox 360 Vudu rentals for later viiewing. Just don't tell the movie studios.

It's worth noting that the Netflix App uses HDCP encryption.

  • Huha! This made me LOL.

  • Why don't developers let you record over HDMI when HDCP is enabled?

Are they getting payed by the movie studios?

I personally wouldn't (want to) buy equipment that are limited to such things.

    Very nice find!

I don't even use VUDU though, and i don't have a capture device... Still nice info!
