These amusing little yellow fish have become more popular in the last couple of years and so you are more likely to see them in your local fish shop. Prices have gone down from $15 just 2 years ago to $5 which is probably about where it will stay. Because these fish are small, brightly colored, interesting to watch, and affordable, many aquarists are going to think about getting one, or two, or three. By the time you are done reading this article you should know if the yellow clown goby is for you, and what you need to know to take care of it.

  • i'd like to point out a fairly big misconception conveyed in this video: these guys actually feed on small coral polyps. They don't really do much harm to an entire wild reef ecosystem, but can be headache for sps coral keepers. But all in all and aside from that, they're excellent and active little fish and a joy to watch, a great addition to many types of reef tanks.

  • @microiguana While they do eat SPS polyps they are not obligate polyp feeders like their cousins. One of the main reasons I recommend the yellow clown goby over the panda clown goby, black clown goby or green (warpaint) clown goby species is that the yellow clown goby readily accepts other food items such as Formula II flake, and frozen daphnia.

  • hi... i just bought a clown goby for my 36 g reef. two days later my cleaner shrimp turned up dead. you mentioned that the clown gobies can be territorial. do you think they might be terroritial to the point that they'd nip a cleaner shrimp to death? i ask because i want to get a new cleaner shrimp but not without being sure it will be safe.

  • @nike12301 Nope, no way it was this guy. I know that from years of keeping them (5 at a time) with cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp.

  • @AnimalLover161 I actually don't have percula clownfish, they are ocellaris which are known as false percula. I have two of them, one standard and one black. I got them from a local breeder. I actually will be posting a video soon of an interview I did with him so check back or subscribe to get notified when it comes.
