The Army Tattoo has been ceremonially opened. President Rajapaksa was the Chief Guest at the opening of this extravaganza.
It is being held to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army which was launched on 10th October 1949. In addition to the exhibition held in Colombo, the Tattoo will be staged at the Kettarama Stadium from 5.00 pm daily upto the 23rd of this month.

A highlight of the event was the Parachute pageant of the Army Commando Regiment. Model stimulation attacks on Puthumatalan, the final battleground that brought the 30 year long war to a successful completion and the enactment of an offensive, meant to rescue soldiers from enemy in the Tattoo, drew exceptional attention of the spectators. The thrilling feats of the dogs who have been trained to sniff explosives, conduct guard duties and undertake chasing added special colour. Assembling of jeeps, artillery guns and cars and construction of bridges in record time, in addition to motor cycling feats, drill displays, musical bands and fireworks were also some highlights of the mega show. The six hour long tattoo is a notable experience for the Sri Lankan population.
