Payatas Documentary, a Mirror of Poverty

The Payatas dumpsite tragedy in the Philippines, happened on July 10, 2000. At 8:05am a massive 50ft wall of solid waste slides down and buries hundreds of shanties, and an undetermined number of people. Bulldozers excavated the site while residents dug with their bare hands and whatever tools they could find to try to rescue victims. This is the story of what happened that day, and about the people who live and work sorting out the trash. This is also helps to explain why these people make this their choice of making their lively hood. All of what you say is true. One of the biggest issues is for the Philippines to separate church and state, as so much of their culture is regulated by the church. I am not Filipino, but I do admire their strengths, culture, and tenacity. They also need to know not to throw their votes away for a few peso's, that alone might make some differences in the corruption.

part of the problem is over-population. Family planning should be advocated. I agree, no abortion. Also, when there's money, there's alcohol/beer drinking.

The Philippines will remain poor forever if they will not address the issue about population control,corruption,physical planning & environment.
