@matt6592: i actually figured it out. I had "start onboard hidden" on. so when the screen is locked, another instance of onboard starts up "as hidden" and all you see is a white area where onboard would normally be. so technically it's still a bug. the workaround is to disable "start onboard hidden".

I have also installed Ubuntu 11.10 in my Iconia W500. The interface is beautiful, but frankly, I find it frustrating to use;
1)No multitouch support.
2)Page scrolling still have to be done using the scrollbar. Using touch screen for this is difficult, I have to use a mouse to do this.
3)No auto popup virtual keyboard when you click on a textfield.
I hope Ubuntu will release a true tablet-friendly version in the future. In the meantime, I'm sticking with Windows 8 Developer preview.

@andrewcoffee
Multi-touch is now supported with the latest EETI eGalax driver kernel 3.0 and in /etc change the eGalax ini file Direction to 2 to get the y axis orientation working properly.

Arrg why does acer have to ruin an otherwise great tablet design by back lighting that damn windows logo.

@joe4ska I know what you mean, but it only lasts a few seconds . . . .

Nice vid on the W500! I'm having trouble getting easystroke to work. Do you have a walk through on how you set it up? Mine won't record the strokes.

@matt6592
Open Easystroke, under Preferences tap on Gesture Button and select Button 1. This is allows you to use your finger touch to make the stroke.
Then select the Actions tab. Select Add Action. Name it whatever you want - in this case Right Click. Under Command select button. Then under Details choose button 3. if you have a mouse attached you can right click in the grey box. Now you should be able to record the stroke you want with your finger to call up the Right Click.
