For your listening pleasure, a great rare track from the legendary King Curtis, the famed saxophone player best remembered for his high octane solo on The Coasters hit "Yakety Yak" who then went on to front his own R&B unit, The Kingpins, scoring hits like "Memphis Soul Stew" and cultivating great session players like Cornell Dupree, Jerry Jemmott and Bernard Purdie. He then became Aretha Franklin's musical director before a glorious career came to a tragic end when he was murdered in August of 1971. Curtis has not been forgotten however, he was nominated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Here is "Instant Groove", which showcases the burning R&B Curtis was best known for. That's him doing the speaking on the track too.

  • @olliedotkid That's a GREAT comment!!! One of the best here among great comments...

  • Aretha Franklin has a song that starts off with the same guitar riff

  • @mrslideinsideu2 Well, that's probably because she had the same line up on her late 60s-early 70s records as here...King Curtis became her musical director in 1971, right before he was murdered... :(
