@LatrinaTwalay Although she deserved one, Midler did not win an Emmy for this. She won her three Emmys for the special 'Ol Red Hair is Back in 1977, for Carson's last show in 1992 and for the HBO concert Diva Las Vegas in 1997.

Midler won an Emmy for this... a well-deserved Emmy! As I recall, Letterman gave 3 or 4 celebrities something like $10,000 each (hence, the "shoestring") to produce their own shorts. This was Bette's contribution. All were then shown during a TV "special" produced by Letterman.

@LatrinaTwalay For Michael J. Fox's film 'The Iceman Hummeth' - David Letterman's 2nd Annual Holiday Film Festival (1986) - he said on the program he had a budget of $40k and came in under at $32k.
