A longer view of Waverley's triple expansion steam engine under instruction from the bridge via the telegraph system. The engines can be seen reversing and responding to the engineer's commands in response to the telegraph.

  • Lincoln Castle has recently been scrapped, a strange tale by all accounts, but she's gone.

This video is great, love watching those expansion links raising and lowering and waiting for the right moment to apply steam.

Yes the dolphin is still there (18th Sept 2011), I meant to ask why its there but didn't!

  • Is the fluffy dolphin still on the middle eccentric rods? I thought someone had spotted real ones when I heard the word dolphin mentioned and ran upstairs. Didn't spot the fluffy feller!!!

  • trust me its mesmerizing. when im on it I just stare at it the whole 3 hours of the cross channel trip.

  • I'm in Love!

  • The excentric rods are so wonderful: while the main pistons are working a lot, they are gently moving :) A real masterpiece is this engine.

  • @petriL21 no titanic had 2 gigantic triple expansion engines for driving her 2 main propellers the center prop was driven by a low pressure steam turbine

  • @titanic3562 its not titanic engine

  • 5* mate. I remember as a kid standing watching through the engineroom window on the ferries across the Humber, the Licoln Castle, Tattershall Castle and the Wingfield, which if I remember reading right, had similar engines to the Waverley. Somting very hypnotic about it all!

  • titanic engine

  • My grandmother lived up the coast at Bridlington, lovely harbour there. The Yorkshire Belle, Boys Own, Britannia, Bluebird, Swift, Queen, all carried lots of holidaymakers across the bay to Flamborough Head and back. Winkles, shrimps, Penny amusements - a shilling a day spending money, patty and chips for tea. My grandad was war blind and minus 1 arm and a pipe smoker. He used to spit into the fire repeatedly, from 6 feet away, and never missed it once, I don't know how.
