Red Eared Slider turtles are imported into California by the hundreds of thousands every year. It has been illegal to sell them with a carapace length of under 4 inches since 1975. They are a popular pet for small children and since they carry salmonella and e-coli bacteria, they pose a significant public health threat. If all non native turtles are banned from CA, then CA has virtually lose almost their rights to have a turtle because There are so few species of turtles native to CA. Oregon has already banned non native turtles. So if u wan a non native turtle free state, go to oregon

They will get bigger, especially if the turtles are female. They can grow up to 12 inches.
