UmmWell She could hear the nervousness in his voice.
He started again. I have to. He sighed. I have to support my family. My dad passed away when I was ten and my mom never really recovered from it. He was her everything. My mom started to drink, and she was rarely at home. Even when she wasshe was passed out on the couch or yelling at my brothers and me telling us how useless we were. My oldest brother Kevin was eighteen at the time and worked to support our family for about a year until I was eleven. One day he got into a huge fight with my mother and left. He paused. Tears started to well up in his eyes. He quickly wiped them away and continued.
Kevin calls us every week and he would send us a portion of his paycheck to help us financially.
Then Joe, the second oldest ran away with his girlfriend last year when I was fifteen.
I worked odd jobs trying to support my family the best that I could. But such a small hourly wage wasnt enough to support my mother and brother AND her habit.
One day I came across an ad in the paper, they wanted male dancers at the club. I lied about my age and secured a job there. It was the only job that I could find that didnt interfere with school and paid well enough to support my family. He looked down. I have to sell my body to others to support my family.
A few tears fell down his cheeks and Selena hugged him tightly. He forced a weak smile. You know He sighed, Youre the first person Ive told my story to.
Selena was touched by this. Nick, that means so much to me.
He smiled weakly. I dont like to talk about my life. When Im at school Im somebody different. Im popular and well liked; things are just a lot less complicated. Things at home are just so messed up for me; I try to stay away from my house as much as possible.
Selena hugged him tightly as a few tears slid down his face. He quickly wiped them away.
You know? Selena said as she pulled away from his embrace. I think that I finally have met someone with a more messed up life than me!
Nick chuckled and kissed her lightly. Youre really something Selena. Youre different from anyone else I have ever metNow its my turn Selena. Why were you at that club?
Selena hesitated for a brief moment. Wellnow that Ive heard your story mine seems pretty silly. She looked down.
He looked at her with a loving smile. Im sure that isnt true.
She looked up at him tentatively. Well, I guess so. My parents are never around. They are always travelling around and they leave me alone all of the time. They never say goodbye to me. It makes me so angry. Everyone thinks that I have such a great life, but it really sucks some of the time.
Nick hugged her and laid down on the grass. Selena cuddled up next to him. Nick?
Yeah?
I dont deserve you.
Selena, dont say that! I LOVE YOU!
Selenas eyes widened. YOU LOVE ME?
