I will admit this scene was an interesting way of telling the story but I agree the mind meld was an awesome way of showing the full story. It was more in depth than this scene.

Good to see im not the only one wondering what nero was doing for all those years while waiting for spock to arrive.

Actually, Nero's ship was damaged when George Kirk crashed the Kelvin into it. So it's not that much of a stretch that Klingons of that period could take it. But I'm glad they cut this scene out because the Old Spock to Young Kirk mind meld was a much better idea for filling in the audience on the back story. This "I read your diary, Nero" scene is pretty lame by comparison.
