Rambling Sailors perform the classic sea shanty "Barrett's Privateers" at the the Florida Renaissance Festival pub sing, March 1, 2009. They are joined by guest Ty Billings (Celtic Mayhem) in this rousing version of a Stan Rogers favorite.

Apologies for the wind noise that comes and goes, it was extremely blustery weather while filming this. Apologies also for the shaky motion in the middle of the video, I was forced to change places on the bench while in the midst of filming.

The Rambling Sailors are Gregg & Susan Csikos (aka Jenkins & Rosie).

Although done in the traditonal style, "Barret'ts Privateers" is a relatively recent shanty, written by the late great Stan Rogers because he said he wanted a good shanty of his own to sing at folk festivals and maritime music celebrations.

Best viewed in HiDef if possible, though YouTube admits that the 720p format is still in beta and may be jerky on a slow connection.

  • Agree totally, and my apologies fr doing so! We were performing at a renaissance faire, and I wanted to avoid using the out of period date.

Thank you two so much for making the video of us, it is some of the best video of us anywhere, and we deeply appreciate it!

  • We are so glad you like it, it is our pleasure to post your music. After all, we had the enjoyment of sitting in on many of your wonderful sets from this past FlaRF.

  • they changed the year to the 1500's? that screws up the whole tale of the song. Of course the song is modern anyway.

  • No apologies needed. I forgot it was a Renfest. I understand the date change now.

Any case I think you guys did very well. Are you local to S. Fl or do you follow the Faire?
