A large sinkhole forms in front of Sobeys head office in Stellarton. The land is the site of the old Allan Shaft 1904~1951 and the Foord Pit 1866~1880 coal mines. The sinkhole was probably the result of a cave in in the old workings in the Foord seam which is approximately 45 feet thick. The water in the hole is the result of a broken sewer line. see part two below.

  • Yes it is a sinkhole from the old mine workings. I was just in town tonight and seen all the firetrucks down there. Apparently it is getting bigger and they now have water backing up which the fire trucks are pumping to try and avoid coming over the road.

  • why is this suck a big deal? people here in pc dont give a shit!

  • your greasy

  • WHOES THE HUNK AT 1:39

  • I'm with you Chuck. I believe that it was a result of a collapse in the old mine workings that caused the pipe failure. I think that the water from the pipe was going into a sinkhole eroding it till it finally collapsed. Then when they dumped truck loads of gravel in the hole it blocked the hole enough to caused the water to back up.

  • I was there last night keeping an eye on the pump they brought in,lowering it by crane as the water was pumped out

  • That's what they are claiming, but they won't know for sure till they can get in there,I beleive that it is caused by a collapse of the old mine workings

  • this isn't a mine shaft it's was caused by a broking pipe. the fire trucks are pumping so they can try to find the big problem.

  • yes, happend over night last week.
