Push That Pigs Foot a Little Closer To The Fire

A nice old timey fiddle tune, I think the Pigs Foot is referring to blacksmithing (pig Iron) but I might be wrong. If anybody knows better I will be very interested. I'm still trying to get my head (and fingers) around drop thumbing technique which is why it's quite slow. Once my technique improves i'll upload another faster, dancier version.

According to "African Banjo Echoes in Appalachia," this song resulted from a time when a slave stole a pig from his master and tried to hide it in his shack. When the master came by to hear the slave play banjo, something he did with frequency, he improvised lyrics to this song to let his wife know that the pig's foot was still visible under the bed. The master, upon hearing the song, clapped loudly and praised the banjo player's improvisational abilities.
