They fought against weak enemies. I generally consider the M1 series tanks inferior to the T-90/80 series of tanks. I say this because:

1)Armor is equal. Abrams has a stronger frontal armor but has more vulnerable points than the T-90, so I say theyre about equal.

2)T-90 has an autoloader

3)1G4 is equal to NATO targeting systems

4)T-90 is cheaper

5)T-90 has guided weaponry

so yeah.I don't have much room to type, but these are briefly some of the reasons why the T-90 is better.

@3dimon3 i agree. its on speculation until they go head to head an even then that is circumstantial. it also depends how a given army employs their tanks.

@RFXCGZZ the type 90 is considered by the russian army as a 45-ton medium tank while the american Abrams in a 70-ton heavy tank. the difference is the abrams is built to fight outnumbered but is harder to replace since construction is as you say more expensive and complex but on paper the abrams would appear to be better 1 on 1. in a war that isnt really known since neither tank has fought the other. it may be equal or in russia's favor since they will be able to make more tanks than the u.s.

Нужно создать новый боевои танк, а не трактара модернизировать. Танк который будет обеспечивать ПОЛНУЮ безопасность экипажа, а не продолжать модернизировать гробы на гусеницах.

@panzerkeiko gun? t 90 gun is uneversal can shoot rockets , range 5000 m ,can shoot down helicopters with that rockets , autoloader never brouk ;) beleve me , more space for other people in tank removing autoloader , armor? i dont think that in leopard better armor , can put on t 90 active armor too (Arena) and so so , nothing to copare only war can show whos the best ;)

@RFXCGZZ but the gun is better on leo2.. better and more stabile and powerful engine... better armour... better track.. firecontrol , optic, speed, radio... space. and if you have problem with autoloader system what do you do?? its more complicated with auto loader system.. abd its more faster with manual loading...
