  • Fascinating stuff - it's interesting to compare this with the CD recording of Philippe Lefebvre, made on Couperin's own instrument at St Gervais... Both wonderful in their own way, although I think that Francois would have a heart attack at those

    32's!!!

On the subject of Cochereau, I still think that THE finest organ recording of all is his of works by Dupre, issued originally in the mid 1970s... The first of the Op.7s is utterly magnificent (and with a strangely terrifying ppp) early on.

  • Another superb recording of Pierre Cochereau - just listen to the Pedal 32' Contra Bombarde at the end! Thank you Widor78 for posting this - do you have any more recordings??

I agree. The organ is not the same now. It has lost that thrilling attack.

  • That's incredible! I think I'll take that drink then..........!!

  • He is still left! He gave me a book when I was there! lol

  • He's still there??? He turned the pages for Leonce de St Martin, PC retained him when he took over in 1954. Now if you're saying he's still there then I think I need a drink..........................

  • WOW! That man klicking the combinations adn turning sheets still does that every concert at ND! What is his name? I got a book about the ND organ from him when i was there! lol

  • Just listen to the end of this (after the drive in which he brings us in !) and you'll definetly agree why Cochereau's Notre-Dame organ (was, apparently..., before 1990) the greatest of all !

Thanks for posting this.He is aware of the

reverberation of the church, look how he lifts

up both hands a few seconds before the end,to

let the voices "speak"as clear as possible.

    Fantastic.

    H.
