Clip from my days as a skydiving jumpmaster. This video was taken approximately 8 years ago (Houston). This was my second jump as an AFF Jump Master. I was moments away from dumping this guys reserve. I dont like to think about what may have happened. Note how the bridle chokes off the pilot chute.
Once on the ground the student didnt even realize (even though the bag hit him in the face)and he held on to the rip cord too!

  • had this two days ago at my 16th jump total. since i'm not doing an aff training i was all alone in the air. pulled the chord, waiting, waiting, wating, looking back, seeing the hotdog (pc with spring) tangling behind me just like in this video. just thought: no please not a reserve this early, and while i was looking for the handles it finally opened. quite scary when your are a student ...

thnx for the video! helped me understand what was wrong in my jump. got rid of the hotdog now.

  • @hedgehogtk Dude - glad it all worked out.

  • Do you know why it opens so slow? But Great job to the jumpmaster.

  • @wixfrosch The bridle is choking off the spring loaded pilot chute (you can see it if you look close) - its a great example of what can happen if this type of pilot chute is not packed correctly (or twisted on opening) - the bag is large enough (in some circumstances) to initiate opening - however, don't take this as the standard operating procedure.

  • guys...this looks like a spring loaded PC. How can a springloaded be a colapsable PC???

  • ohh! i want to go to aff but this video scaring me...

  • I never noticed these training videos on Youtube before, I'm looking through all the hardcore base jumps, trying to make myself feel good about my first static line jump lol.

  • no words :)

  • @jpgusa Well that explains that, I'd imagine it was the 'pain in the balls' part the video was referring to then, thanks.

  • i like how he pulls and looks at it like "fuck " was that suppose to happen and still holds on to it. good jump master. saved u a pain full ball crushing opening

  • @reluctable the reason people dont like to open a reserve is first it meant to open a lot faster then the main causing a little bit of pain in your balls if u know what i mean second u have to pay to get it re pact by a certified packer and third is, now u have to pray to god every thing works because the reserve is all u got and there a few other things

  • I know nothing about skydiving but I'm getting the distinct impression that, even if it saves your life, pulling the reserve chute is an unpleasant experience, why is that?

  • did he died?

  • did he died?

  • Wait till you have a bag lock at 1600 feet!

  • cool video dude, glad all worked out!!

  • that has to be the best video of what a jumpmaster is trained to do. good job bro. i have seen vids of JM who leave the student to fend for himself, just AWFUL!!

  • Excellent instructor!! Stays at the students side, perfect.

  • NIce job on the instructor and student!....

  • i had on my verry first AFF jump , a twist and line over , i managed to get it out without pulling reserve. i was pretty proud on myself exept for the butlanding.

  • as in everything, failure can occur. material of pilot chute packed between the spring as it is compressed is to decrease metal on metal hang up of spring...but bridle should be clear of any pilot chute body. packing error caused pilot chute hesitation. spring loaded pilot chutes are used on student gear, & every reserve. main S.L.P.C.s get more used & wear, eventually losing springiness, also resulting in P.C. hesitation. a few extra seconds at pull time can seem like an eternity.

  • lucky fucking bastard xD. I go on my first tandem dive next week, totally fucking psyched

  • @d19407 Sometimes its the PC thats stuck in the burble. Happens.

  • @bamfskydiver Its hard to say if it got packed in there, so I put it down to just one of those WTF mals

  • @paulomsilva Thanks

  • @martialart23 Thanks for the comment - I have no idea what song that is - Youtube decided to remove the original song (probably because of copyright issues) and replace it with the current one - sorry I cant help.

  • epic vid, what song is this?
