@cmuchando I found out the on camera fires before the shutter opens and it triggers the external flashes. Pretty cool but it still blinds your subjects a little. At least I know now.

I have a 7d and a 430EXII and I cannot disable my on camera flash. I followed the instructions to set it to external only but no luck. Any other settings I am missing?

You are not able to fire the slave flash without the main flash firing despite what you say. At least I have been unable to perform this function ?
