The Interrogation (2011)

Here's another one of my so-called directing scenes. I must say, this one was tough. The entire scene is all improv and I had never tried to shoot a scene that didn't follow some kind of script. Not to mention the fact that I had never worked with most of the people seen in this video before. All of the actors are not really "actors" but students in the actual directing class: none of them have had any acting or theatre training. But I think overall they did a pretty good job. Another reason why this particular project was difficult was because I had to work in a limited time frame. You see, we had to come up with an idea of something we'd like to shoot and then set up all of the cameras and shit. In terms of directing the actors, I only had enough time to explain to them the setting and a little bit of the backstory I had come up with. And then I had to shoot the scene. We had to use three cameras at once so it was tough to direct three different camera operators. If I had been given more time I would have worked with the "actors" more and given them more time to get into their characters, but oh well. I also wish I could have done some special effects with the whole cutting of the fingers, but I had to work with what I had been given. The scene was shot on the college's theatre stage, and all of the props and stuff were things I could find lying around the stage.

a Short Backstory: Basically, the main character has recently started living with his older brother and the brother's girlfriend. The older brother is in the "drug traffic business" and a few days ago he left town with some stolen money without saying a word to his girlfriend or younger brother. So late one night, the older bother's former associates kidnap both the younger brother and the girlfriend, thinking that they know the whereabouts of the other brother.

For no acting experience, the younger brother and the torturer did really, really well. With no gory special effects, they really managed to sell their roles, and the torture.
