This is it!! This is the one that made mr want to join the Navy (which I did....for 20 years). Hong Kong liberty was like the commercial but only better sue to not having to wear uniforms on lib. When I visited the Brits still owned the Island. Food and drink was wonderful so was the nightlife. Damn it was good to be a WestPac Sailor!
I was there when this commercial was made. In fact for the bridge scenes, I was behind the camera. I helped coordinate members of the crew to participate in the filming of this commercial. The year was 1981 and the ship was the USS John Young (DD-973). There was a lot of consternation as we were approaching our anchoring point because of the Chinese Junk that kept getting in front of us (we didn't know it at the time, but it had a camera crew on board).
Hong Kong was a good liberty port back in the day. I wonder how it is now? I had a great time! One of these days I'm going to go back with my wife. The view atop Victoria Peak is breathtaking, especially at night. Actually most Asian liberty ports were great. PI, Thailand, Singapore, had a blast. Saudi Arabia... Now that was a different story. But just getting off the ship for a couple of days is great! Sometimes I miss the Navy.
@richintalent When I was in 20 YEARS AGO!!!, and especially today. Unless for official occasions, Sailors are not allowed to wear their uniform in foreign ports because it makes them more conspicuous targets for terrorists. That was the reason we were given.
0:20 The squid checks out the chick's ass! Classic! I remember this ad from when I was a kid. One of the reasons I joined the Navy instead of the Army! Hmmm... All the Army guys I knew went to places like Kansas. I went to Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore...etc...Still we never wore our uniforms on liberty.
Man...port of call any where...we would NEVER wear our uniforms...how many knucleheads joined from this ad?...but you do "see the world" if you join the Nav....

@davidjradich call me stupid, but aren't you supposed to be in uniform at all times?
