Today was an interesting day to ride the Metra Electric District Main Line, as several extra trains were being run to accommodate fans headed to the Chicago Fire vs. Manchester United international soccer match at Soldier Field, near the 18th Street stop on the line. Here is a view from the rear vestibule of one of those "Chicago Fire Soccer Extra" trains, showing some of the highlights of the run into Chicago. In addition to some Metra Electric action at 18th Street, where crowds head to the soccer match, at Calumet and Hazel Crest, a CN manifest is being broken up in Markham Yard; at Ivanhoe a BNSF coal drag waits to get onto the Indiana Harbor Belt; at Riverdale we catch a glimpse of CSX's Barr Yard; at 95th St in Chicago, a freight crawls up the connector from the CN / IC to NS / Belt Rwy of Chicago, while an NS Triple Crown RoadRailer train passes overhead; at 87th Street, a CN rail train heads south; and we stop at two stations in Hyde Park.
Enjoy!
I'll usually take this downtown from Homewood, or the South Shore from Hammond. Thanks for the video! Hope you post more!
