The final match of Day One of the Osaka tournament features yokozuna Asashoryu fighting komusubi Kyokutenho.
Asashoryu, of course, won the last tournament in January in Tokyo, with a 14-1 record, only losing to Hakuho on the final day in regulation but beating him in the playoff for the Cup.
Kyokutenho was at maegashira #1 in January and had a 9-6 record, which was enough to secure him this promotion to komusubi.
Asashoryu 朝青龍 is from Mongolia, is 28 years old, weighs 153kg and stands 1.84m tall.

Kyokutenho 旭天鵬 is also from Mongolia, is 34 years old, weighs 160kg and stands 1.92m tall.

I plan to post more action from the first week all this week, so come back for more sumo!

Oh I agree 100% Jason that he needs to be mentioned and included amongst the greats. I just don't know if I'd say "he will be the greatest yokozuna for all the time" because of how he's slowing down =P
I have high hopes that Hakuho will surpass him in total yusho someday (assuming he stays healthy), but Asa is still extremely entertaining and a joy to watch. Keep up the great videos man!!

I think he deserves to be mentioned when talking about the all time greats. He has some records that are impressive all on their own - like being the only Yokozuna to win all 6 tournaments in a calendar year, or winning 7 tournaments in a row.
He's been so dominant that it's interesting to see him struggle a bit now and really have to work for his wins. He's still the most entertaining wrestler I've ever watched.

I met some Sumô-tori from/in Hirosaki back then during the Neputa festival... surprisingly nice guys.
I actually thought such people were professionally grumpy. :-)

ASASHORYU is the best SUMO wrestler and he will be greatest Yokozuna for all the time. God bless him

He just landed on everyone else. I think 1 of them died! LOL! J/K. Doesn't look as easy as Hakuho's first match, but it's still a win. Good luck to Asashoryu.
