A Working Emerson Baird Wondergram Phonograph

In 1960, Emerson released the Wondergram or as it was touted "The Worlds Smallest Turntable". It was a portable, battery powered record player, complete with swing out tonearm and speaker - all housed in a compact metal case.

  • Hi Gaz, very sorry - I dont have a clue what needle cartridge it takes. This Emerson was not mine, I was selling it for someone. Best of luck

  • Hi akronman27,

I filmed this real quick to add video to an auction in which I was selling this "ancestor to the iPod"for someone. It was a very neat record player made in the 60's that played all sizes of vinyl with no adapter. Used 4 C batteries. It sold for $220 :-)

  • This is neat, but they should have shown how the record was inserted. Was the tonearm automatic? Better yet show also a 45 rpm record being played. I suppose there is a setting for 45's where the person inserting the record would snap it into place before playing it.

  • Could you tell me what needle cartridge this takes? I have one that is missing that part.

  • I love this portable, wish I had one. I'd love to see a vid. of this player being set up to play and how it works, does it adapt to 45,s or do you need to use a snap in adapter? Prob. not play 78's I imagine.
