Not to one-up you guys, but _mutatis_mutandis_, you should have seen him at age 14 with The Cliffhangers, playing out of Ozone Park, Queens. That was the golden age of church dances on the Queens/Brooklyn, NY border, where many a budding musician (including yours truly) tried out his stuff and honed his skills on Friday and Saturday nights.
Yup he was/ is, "IT" on the drums as far as I'm concerned. Im not fanatical drum fan, but used to love listening to Joes solos whit the "Good Rats". Couldn't count how many times I saw these guys.
he played for chilliwack, back in 1982, and played on vinnie moore's time odyssey album, and then twisted sister, chilliwack did a live concert for pay tv with him, just before brian and ab went full time with headpins, its a super concert, i have looked for it online, and can't find it,
Franco played on Blues Saraceno's first solo album, that is where I first heard him...kind of a Clive Bunker-meets-Carl Palmer style...his work on that album is very impressive. Wish there was more of him on UToob..
Saw Joe do a drum clinic with Pearl Drums (I Think) in Doncaster in the mid eighties and he absolutely blew me away.
I am a keyboard player and after seeing Joe I wanted to give it all up. To see someone with such a natural talent was just beyond me. What an unbelievable drummer.
To this day, when i listen to his drum solo from the "live at last" Lp, I still sweat! It's the most adreneline packed solo to date!

Joe Franco is the MAN! The Good Rats RULE ALL!
I normally HATE double bass drummers but Joe, Carl Palmer and Peart know how NOT to over play them. Joe does GREAT cymbal work too! LOVE his drumming!
