Sung by Louis Armstrong.
He also did the trumpet solo bit.

An experiment with kinetic typography. Feel free to give me feedback - all comments (to a certain level of rationality) are acknowledged, and I love to hear what you lot think about my stuff.

  • I think the lyrics say "Like a bolt out of the blue" , not "boat"!

  • You're absolutely right, lesterwyoung. :)

  • Agreed. I looked it up, and every internet source seems to think that it's 'boat', though. In hindsight, 'bolt' makes much more sense - it just shows how much the internet is created by people who just assume they're in the know, and people who blindly agree with this 'knowledge'. Most of the lyric websites must have copied this apparent error, but I think you're right.

  • Interesting... in the Johnny Mathis version, the lyrics are 'like a boat'. As much as pronunciation is debatable when it comes to the vocal style of Louis Armstrong, you can hear pretty much every word clearly in Mathis' version. So maybe it is 'boat' after all...

  • Nicely done Will, when are you going to get recognition for these videos

  • I'm in no particular hurry to become noticed, but I admit that it would be nice to be well-known enough to get at least one comment a day!

  • I can't believe this conversation, it's 'bolt out of the blue' which everyone knows is a well known phrase. Boat out of the blue is nonsense!! Google it and it will auto complete. Perhaps it's an age thing!

  • This is about as good as it gets. I listen to this alot all over the year and it kinds of almost make me cry every time. I just love it. We get to hear a genius musician in action.

  • I was able to come across a wonderful image at the night when this music wanted to hear it somehow.

Even if letters danced like a shooting star and took it, it was healed.

  • Thank you for the story of the song =D
