This is the trailer to one of the few complete concert performances of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, this live recording features the legendary jazz trumpeter and singer on an Australian tour in 1964, when he had already become an international superstar and a living symbol of 20th-century American culture. As a founding father of jazz he revolutionized the world of music and became one of the most influential artists and entertainers ever. The impressive structure of his melodic ideas and the radiant sonorities and flawless technique of his trumpet playing all marked him out as jazz's first soloist of genius. Louis Armstrong set new standards for swing feeling, improvisation, scat singing and command of his instrument, but also for stage presence and entertainment, providing a model for performers in virtually every field of jazz and on every conceivable instrument.

  • Think about this. before television was popular, way way before the internet, when the only mass media was newspapers, and radio, this man was popular in Europe, Asia, South America, and North America. Not only popular, but loved by people the world over.

  • 2:11 this should be Saint Kilda's theme song

  • dang one day i was in my schools libary (rancho cucamonga middle school) and i picked up a random book and it was a book about Armstrong and i read the whole thing and now im hooked to his music i love this good man!

  • i love his vioce

  • To the nice folks at NaxosUSA,

I along with many other Louis fans are so happy you released this video. But you have the wrong year. This was filmed in March, 1963. Louis went to Australia in November of '64, but with Russell "Big Chief" Moore on trombone, Eddie Shu on clarinet and the same rhythm section & vocalist. I hope you guys release the "real" Louis in Australia 1964 some day. It was also televised.

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool i want to play like him

  • well said Jazzanswer. Me too.

  • I wish I could go out to a club and hear music like this.

  • good onya BOB, I know man , but he is good.....
