BET making some changes... wonder if it was all the pressure from groups like Enough is Enough and docs like Turn Off Channel Zero... below is a press release
"We have learned this week that BET will be canceling the rap music video show Rap City. Citing concerns about loss of sponsorships and declining ratings, the network will air the last episode of Rap City in late October after 21 years of being on the air. This program change comes on the heels of the resignation or firing three weeks ago of Reginald Hudlin, BET President of Entertainment. Our monitors have also noticed that the morning airing of 106 & Park has been eliminated from the daily morning programming line up (it still airs in the afternoon). We believe these changes are due in large part to the pressure put on Viacom by the Enough Is Enough Campaign for Corporate Responsibility in Entertainment. We would like to thank all of you who have supported this campaign in any way over the past 15 months. The rallies in New York and Washington, DC, the 'Rap on Rap Study' produced in April of this year, and the advertiser accountability efforts have served to expose the problem of adult-themed content being marketed to children and youth. We would also like to thank those conscientious advertisers that agreed over the past 5 months to remove their commercials from certain music video programs on BET and MTV. The Enough Is Enough Campaign is testament of power of your voice, and of the impact consumer activism can have on changing the kinds of images and messages our children receive. The Enough Is Enough Campaign will continue engaging networks, advertisers, and cable providers about adult-themed programming that targets youth. The struggle continues." Rev. Delman Coates, Organizer Enough Is Enough Campaign for Corporate Responsibility in Entertainment
