Alma Whitten is the member of a team at Google specialised in privacy matters. As the most important internet search engine in the world, Google collect every hour millions of date about anyone who is using all its services (the search engine plus services like Gmail, Google Earth, Youtube, etc.).
"The mysteriousness make sometimes people be scared. Though, at Google, our policy aim to be fully transparent about what we do with the informations we collect. If we do not say we do something, you can feel alright we are not doing it".
Alma Whitten stresses on the distinctions between the data Google knows from not logged in people using the search engine and data collected for people who are logged in on a Google service (Gmail, Google Docs,etc.).
This first kind of datas are anonyme. They help Google to better understand the requests and the behaviour of the search engine users. "So, we can build a improved search engine".
Beside, as mentioned, Google has a view on more personnalised datas, those provided when we are logged in to a specific Google service for user. "We do not cross these two distinct kinds of data", says Alma Whitten.
It is the same for information about corporations. Google is the first users of its own applications, like Google Docs."It is safe", underlines Alma Whitten.
