It's interesting to know that the 20,000 man Anzac force convoy to Gallipoli was escorted by HMAS Sydney and the IJN battle cruiser Ibuki. During the trip the Sydney was diverted to the Cocos Islands to engage the German battleship Emden which left the Japanese battle cruiser the only ship escorting them....
