Young Warriors
Rehovot, Israel

A Kung Fu club in Israel wins against all odds.

And now to a story about martial arts. A small Kung Fu club in Israel
trains world champions year after year. Our Israeli team introduces us to
some of the players and their wills of steel.

Kung Fu , also known as Wushu is an ancient Chinese martial arts tradition. Some say it's over three thousand years old.
In recent years Modern Wushu has become an international sport.
The first world championship was held in Beijing back in 1991.
Today, the International Wushu Federation includes 80 countries.
And here at the Wushu Club in the Israeli city of Rehovot, Israel's national team trains.

[Natasha Gerevitz, Wushu Practitioner]:
"Being part of the national team is a big honor and very hard work. It
involves personal work as well as working together as a team."

The basic movements include kicks, punches, sweeps and throws. It requires concentration and coordination of the mind and body. Practitioners can increase their energy, self-discipline and confidence. It attracts people of all ages including Idan Shraer. [Idan Shraer, Wushu Practitioner]:
"When I was little, I was watching a lot of Jackie Chan movies, and I
wanted to do some sport that was not exactly fighting, boxing or something
like that. I was looking for something different with a lot of acrobatics
and a combination of fighting skills."

Daniel Kovalev may be small, but he sure packs a punch.

[Daniel Kovalev, Wushu Practitioner]:
"Last year, in a competition in Poland I won five gold medals and a cup.
When I was about four my parents brought me here. I tried it, liked it,
and since then I've trained here."

The Israeli national Wushu team continues to win championships year after
year. They say that talent and hard work are what it takes to be
successful.
