In general, car can go faster speed cause it's easier to make the wheel stick to the ground. The boat tend to flip easily with just slighly a little wave when they go high speed.

I still believe that R/C cars in average is faster than R/C boat.

In 1:10 touring (gas & electric) cars can go up to 100 km/hr. In 1:8 gas car can go up to 120 km/hr This is speed they do in the long r/c circuit. Not for a speed record. The fastest R/C cars (brushless car) can go up to 150 MPH. Not sure what the R/C boat can do.
