I am posting this demo to show this 1962-63 SEARS SILVERTONE 1474 amp works. I am playing a Strat that I built with GFS neovin power rock noiseless pickups directly into the amp. The amp is set at 4 on the volume and the tone controls are set at 4-5 also.

  • How's the headroom and the cleans on this amp? Thanks!

  • @herc122 I'm able to keep it clean up to 6 before it starts to break up alot. with the volume at 4, i would be able to play in a band situation. this amp was blasting during this video. kind of hard to tell with the sound because of the compression of the camera mic

  • Jay thank you for the info on the pickups. One more thing. They look to be single coils but are they really single coils or humbuckers that look like single coils? I ask because the description at Ebay kind of implies they are not really single coils but I'm not positive. Thank You.

  • i would think they are really a humbucker with a dummy coil to silence the hum. same as kinman, barden, fender noiseless, and bill lawrence. i'm sure they all vary slightly, but all seem to have the extra coil to hum cancel.

  • Jay, let me ask you this. You like a lot of good guitar music. You like classic tones as do I. I'm a pretty big Hank Marvin fan. Was wondering do you feel those noiseless GFS pickups can nail that Hank Marvin tone? I don't have the funds, well I do but rather not spend on Kinmans which are supposed to be great. Can those GFS nail the Marvin tone? Thanks.

  • i am pretty impressed with the gfs noiseless pickups. i have the power rock set. i got them to help drive the amp a bit. i had a set of kinman and they didn't do it for me. at least not for the price they want. i will stick with GFS or Bill Lawrence noiseless. i really dont know if these pups will give you the Hank Marvin sound. maybe the vintage output pups will get you there. its like trying to get the SRV sound. its got alot to do with his fingers and style. SRV sounded like SRV on any guitar

  • @herc122 This amp over 4 with good clean humbucker simply rocks.........one of the best distorted tones I have ever heard..I wish he would have turned it up louder and used HB's this combo slays...and I wish people were talking about the amp instead of the freakin single coils,of course they sound great but this was an amp demo and didnt show how this amp breaks up when the front end is pushed !! I LOVE mine..no pedals needed,'cept maybe a wah !!

  • Love your playing and the tone you are getting out of your rig. I have 1474 in a closet that I need to retube,,,,,this video just gave me the last little nudge I needed to get it out and work on it.

  • Woo Hoo...Super nice sound and playin!

  • hi my friend this was nice, i'm building my strat and was planning to get these power rocks neovins, my dad owns a strat that i can't bother due to the noise of the single coils pickups, i wanted to ask what pots and uf's did you put in there? also i like to play redhotchillipeppers a lot but can't stand the noise and also don't want to spend a lot, or maybe would you reccomend duncans or fenders noiseless?

  • Love the guitar!!! Where did you buy this one???

  • About Kinmans. I hear mixed reviews of them. Some love them and some say they are kinda dull and not what they claim to be. I actually have Fender Custom '54s and they sound great and odd enough they are pretty quiet. No shielding in my Strat but maybe just a good wiring job and good electronics. I use cloth wiring because I want it to be like Buddy Holly's guitar and other old school original '50s guitar wiring. Maybe there is something to cloth wiring.

  • Jay thanks for the info. Yeah I was thinking maybe dual coil, one dummy and one live but was not sure for those GFS. Eric Johnson used to use DiMarzio stacked humbuckers with one coil active and one not. Now I think he uses some Fender custom wounds since he has Fender sig model Strats he endorses. I have used DiMarzio noiseless Strat pickups. So I guess the GFS are kinda like that too.
