This is the modified version of my regular squirrel trap in earlier videos. Instead of having a trigger plate directly attached to the nail to release the door, I use a mouse trap. The squirrel steps on the trigger plate, and triggers the mouse trap directly above(that's what the box is for, to cover the mouse trap). The mouse trap spring pulls a wire which is attached to the nail. The nail is placed under the door to hold it up. And if you listen closely, you will here the squirrel squeak when he pops his head out of the top of the door!

  • Does that have the mouse trap trigger? I made one with it and and I can catch anything from small birds to raccoon

  • @backyardtrapper Yes. I have caught some cardinals with this design.

  • Thank you for the information. I've had trouble with small animals not being heavy enough to trip the trigger plate. I'm going to make a new trap and try your method.

  • @kingitis2u If you look at my squirrel trap 2 video, you will see that I had the same problem. With this new design, I can catch birds!

  • How exactly does your mousetrap trigger work ?

  • @kingitis2u There is a trigger plate inside the trap. The trigger plate in the trap is attached to the trigger plate on the mouse trap above the squirrel trap. When the plate inside of the trap is touched, it triggers the mouse trap which pulls a string attaches to a nail holding the door up. When the nail comes out from under the door, the door falls.

  • mm its nice to see someone who actually knows what slow motion is..most "slo mo" videos are slideshows

  • I looked at several videos online to find an efficient and easy way to make a squirrel trap (No injuries to the animal). This is the best trigger method I've found. Thanks for posting.
