Southern Pacific "Daylight" Lima GS-4 4-8-4 #4449 returning home to Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 after going to TrainFestival in Michigan and then operating for the Friends of Milwaukee Road #261 in Minnesota. Shown at Wishram, Washington, along Horsethief Lake and at Union Station in Portland, Oregon. The video opens with a BNSF freight train filmed at Wishram while wating for #4449, and a couple of Amtrak trains are shown departing Union Station as well.
@NaziJuice There are some absolutely gorgeous rail routes in both Canada and the US. The quality of rail is pretty good, since it's such an important (and cheap) source of freight transport. For so long, even after the introduction of automobiles, rail was still the only practical means of long range transport between population centers.
Some Americans like myself would love to see a nationwide high speed rail system, but it probably will never happen with government in-fighting about it.
