Wow, this is alot better than the PS1 version of this game that I so fondly remember playing way back when...

Cmon, make Wing Commander VI!!!

The secondary fire selected camera is used when you clear the area of ground targets, then just spam the secondary fire button to make as many pictures as possible. You will get a communication saying htat you took enough pictures of a certain area "Objective accomplished, proceed to next waypoint". Just a matter of surviving the dogfighting and constant missle spamming long enough to take the pictures.

I always failed this mission as a kid, no matter how i fired the laser it never took pictures
Were you playing this with a keyboard or mouse? I tried once with a joystick but it didn't seem to like it (though the same one worked for WC3--go figure). It made me want to cry. D:

@Elleroth I flew the mission with a joystick. The best option to get thru the mission in one piece is to use missile salvos on one of the Vindicators. There are two waypoints where two Vindicators are at on the surface. If you take one down at each waypoint you will have two missiles left. It's probably a good idea to use another missile against one of the two Banshees guarding the planet.

Fraps has been a bit of a bust since it only captures the cinematics and gameplay. The little stuff of walking to different areas gets cut by the game itself IIRC once CD #2 is loaded.
