@kathy1977 At the end of the series Jimmy does have a job, they tell him he won't ever be doing any real police work but he still has a desk job at least.

If everyone in the world donated a dollar to HBO...I reckon they would make the sixth series.

I have very little sympathy for the Mcnulty character in the series. He, as Freeman says, "sets fire to everything he touches and walks away as it burns."
So when he goes on a self-destructive rampage as a result of the consequences of his own behavior, it's tough for me to feel sorry for him, regardless of the dysfunction within the system in which he operates.

I agree. Jimmy is his own worst enemy. The system doesn't have to screw him. He does a good enough job screwing himself. And in the end he's left with no job, a struggling relationship with Beadie, no money, and no home of his own. Because that was Beadie's house he was living in. And notice that by season five his relationship with his kids didn't seem as close? They barely acknowledged his presence in the final scene he had with them. It's a shame because deep down Jimmy does mean well.
