The Two Dreams, Part 2_The Secret Dream

This video clip is the second of a two-part series excerpted from the workshop "The Unconscious Mind" (available at http://facim.org/bookstore/p-213-the-unconscious-mind.aspx ) taught by Dr. Kenneth Wapnick at the Foundation for "A Course in Miracles" in Temecula CA, June 29, 2007.

The "two dreams" refers to the Course's underlying metaphysics, which says that the entire world of our experience, both the physical world and the psychological world, is an illusion or a dream, and not our true Reality. The "world's dream" is but an out-picturing of the "secret dream," which is the unconscious mind in "A Course in Miracles," as distinguished from the unconscious mind usually referenced in modern psychology. The unconscious mind studied in psychology and neurology generally refers to the activity of the brain and the body, whereas the Course, while acknowledging the seeming reality of this aspect of human experience, teaches that the mind and its unconscious nature is outside of time and space and therefore not accessible to the conscious mind in our everyday experience. In the beginning of the workshop, Kenneth states, "It is without question, in my mind at least, the most difficult aspect of the Course [to grasp]. We have no real concept in our language and in our conceptual scheme to understand the mind, because the mind is outside of time...and space." The two videos in this series serve both as an introduction to these ideas, and may also serve as a succinct summary for students already familiar with this way of viewing the unconscious mind.
