isn't it haretna restaurant in Bab Touma? or maybe Al-Khawali in Madhat Pasha? Either case great food and great time, for a low price. Damascys is definitely part of the axis of good.

From Ummayad mosque main entrance to the right, walk around the corner, go straight and take 2nd street to the right (the small one with all the old damascene houses). Walk straight until u have to turn to the left, follow the street and it will be the 2nd restaurant on the left, directly on the street.
