By the way, the lead guitarist on the record is Cliff Bramlett and the killer drummer is Joe Cyers. The sax is Stan Petrew. Credit where credit is due...

Read "The Who's First Single Plagiarized Michigan Artists" on the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends site for the whole story.

@mahatmacote Very well put!

Of course this was 'lifted' by The Who, renamed for their first recording release. As was the flip, which is just 'Got Love If You Want It' with changed words. Pete Meaden likely influenced them to do these two songs, and partly because he wrote the mod lyrics. When Pete Townshend did something similar with "All Day, and All Of The Night", the Kinks hit, when he made it into 'Can't Explain'.
I love love love The WHO so this isn't criticism - just da facts, jack!
Most bluesmen nicked stuff anyway

Great song, great riff. The Dynamics rocked.
-
The Who didn't steal it, it was their manager Peter Meaden. Meaden wrote new lyrics, gave it to the High Numbers to record, and took full credit for it. The single bombed and never made any money anyway, so what does it matter?

"One for the Mods" ? One for the greasers too !

my father is cliff bramlett and he wrote and recorded misery with the dynamics and their manager stole the song and sold it to the high numbers...and i have to say they really ruined the song....im a fan of the who, but what they did was wrong and they should have had their ass kicked for that shit...Chris Bramlett

Are you really that ignorant that you'd think the Dynamics ripped off the High Numbers? (I hope you're not a DJ!)
