That's what Levil Technology is offering. With the company's basic software, you can run all sort of other software and sensors in a Windows-based EFIS for experimentals.

  • @KaityRSProduction "if your going to go glass cockpit, go big or go home". We are talking experimentals here. I can imagine a guy close to a VariEze, looking at the Canard configuration and composite construction, saying "this is an absolute waste". For a VFR plane, this way better than the 6 basic instruments+gps+anythingelse combo. Full IFR is another history...

In your opinion, regarding Glass Cokpits, what is going big?

  • @KaityRSProduction Hi Kaity, I am very familiar with this product (and I am an Aeronautical Engineer and Avionics specialist too...) and altough the discussion around WinXP surely has it basis, that is not just a flat screen+software. It is a complete solution. It includes de AD/AHRSI/EMS card, the screen and the CPU attached to it. I came back to the video after having the unit in my hand. The use of windows is due to the idea of using existing EFIS software, available mostly for windows.

  • Antivirus included? )))

  • I think this would work as a display for passengers, but wouldn't want a Windows operating system telling me how to fly my airplane. Unless this company has discovered how to make Windows rock solid-stable.

  • hmmm PC based, yes is a little scary, but you can definitely have a really nice cockpit without having to buy a 40K Garmin. I fly with anywhere map on my hand-held, and once tried using my laptop, but brightness was awful. if the system has the right brightness I think I could consider it for my "work in progress" RV9 project, heck I can play movies for the kids...

  • blue screen of death still occurs frequently in windows xp, clearly you have no idea what you are talking about...

this seems like a product for the average cheap jew pilot. not sure how they can charge $4000 for basically a flat screen with a program that is connected to the aircraft instruments...

if your going to go glass cockpit, go big or go home. this is an absolute waste.

  • Linux?

  • Blue screen of death.... you kidding me???? that is so Windows 98.... plus if you crash because you don't have a screen.... you should not be a pilot. I think that a set up like this one, with the main three steam gauges (Alt, Speed, and Attitude indicator) as back up (like every other CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT out there) would nice to have.

  • I'm a software architect and a pilot and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would get in a plane where I would have to rely on a windows based software stack. No chance in hell. I don't rely on windows for the multi-million dollar project I lead because I don't trust it, and I wouldn't trust my life with it.

  • Windows XP PRO and Celeron-M as standard - a bit confusing if you ask me. I know it's cheap but is it worth to base such important system on such operating system instead of dedicated one?
