I don't know where you are getting your facts from but in 2009 the united states had the following electricity generation rates:

-44.9% coal

-23.4% Natural Gas

-20.3% Nuclear

-6.9% Hydroeletric

-3.6% other renewables

-1% Petroleum.

Also about your comment, mining coal, natural gas, and building more nuclear power plants means more American jobs and fewer dependencies on unstable foreign oil. Sounds like a win win to me. Less noise, less pollution, more jobs.
